7 Fun Construction Yoga Poses for Kids

Children love building, digging, and exploring. Toddlers are especially enthralled with trucks, demolition, dirt, hard hats and more.

Since a driving force in our teaching philosophy comes from collaboration and being inspired by children’s ideas, we’ve encountered many opportunities to get creative and celebrate all the exciting machinery and activities one would see on a construction site!

As demonstrated by the popularity of our list of transportation yoga poses, kids love things that go vroom, zoom, UP, and over!

Construction-themed yoga is an exciting way to stimulate discovery and imagination, explore engineering and math, and strengthen our whole bodies — including the brain.

Here is a list of some of our favorite musical yoga construction activities to get started:

1. Excavator Yoga Pose

Forward fold (standing forward bend) is an accessible yoga pose that helps calm the mind and stretch the body. Use forward fold to mimic the movements of a great, big excavator.

Bring your arms up to depict the shovels going up, and twist your torso to move the imaginary dirt around!

2. Cement Mixer for Core Strength

Go on an adventure to a construction site and practice mixing cement with Lauren Kelly! Adding bicycle crunches and arm movements to this original song makes for a fun and dynamic core workout.

3. Backhoe Yoga Pose

Stretch like a backhoe with three-legged dog pose! This fun downward dog variation helps fire up our abdominals and elongates the spine while strengthen our balance.

4. Construction Crane Yoga Pose

Be a strong and tall construction crane and practice balance with crane pose and warrior three pose! Warrior Three makes us feel like a SUPER HERO, what about you?

If you are having trouble balancing in this pose, try practicing with hands pressing against a wall.

5. Goddess Yoga Pose

Let’s get digging! We use Goddess Pose to help us get low, scoop up dirt, and toss it behind us. This offers many exploratory conversations:

6. Bulldozer High Lunge

Take a high lunge and push away the imaginary dirt, like a bulldozer! High lunge (crescent lunge) has many benefits: it strengthens, build focus, improves balance, and is suitable for all ages.

You can watch our bulldozer song and yoga pose (among many more) in our app’s Construction Adventure.

7. Wash Your Hands Sing Along

Construction sites, digging, and exploring can get messy! A construction yoga adventure is the perfect opportunity to remind children about hygiene and hand washing.

Try our popular hand-washing song for kids, which is fun and educational!
